Fire-fighting
robot teams and RoboWaiter teams: Mark
your calendars! The 2010 Trinity College
Fire-Fighting Home Robot Contest will be held on April 10
and 11 on the Trinity College campus in Hartford,
Connecticut USA.
The 2010 contest
rules are posted! Stay tuned
to this site to see exciting new features of both contests.
New fire-fighting challenges include the Tiny Robot
Award, a new random candle location option, and increased
time reduction for the Variable Door Location option.
The contest will offer the new House on Fire Expert
Division, which we introduced in 2009.
Also new in 2009
was RoboWaiter, the assistive robotics contest sponsored by
the Connecticut Council on Developmental Disabilities.
Last year’s contest survey showed that RoboWaiter
participants felt a high level of engineering challenge,
were curious about assistive robotics, and wished to
increase awareness among potential users of assistive
technology. Supporters and instructors
felt it was important to introduce students to the assistive
technology subject.
We look forward
to a high level of participation in RoboWaiter in 2010. To
increase the challenge we will introduce the RoboWaiter
Advanced Division. The RW Advanced
Division will require robots to interact with a “smart”
refrigerator, retrieve food from more than one refrigerator
shelf, and navigate within a changing environment.
We hope that many
school and university teams will accept the RoboWaiter and
fire-fighting challenges in 2010. Stay
tuned to this website for further information.
